Biography

A native and lifelong resident of Durham NC β€” Activisim, arts and outreach has been a constant for this arts and entertainment entrepreneur.

Mr. Brodie continues to create through many modes of expression on matters of the human condition.

While working as a 911 communications officer in the 1990s, the shooting death of a small child inspired him to create the Durham Homicide Memorial Quilt as well as other thought provoking protest art pieces. In response to the shooting death of 7 year old Kamari Munnerlyn, Mr. Brodie in summer of 2017 began bringing the now nearly 200 feet long tapestry to vigils and other such outreach events in and around Durham. His prayer is to ultimately retire the quilt to a permanent home. But until that day the quilt will continue to serve as an educational tool, a traveling shrine and conversation starter on curbing community violence and exploring its root causes. On the subject of rampant gun crimes and homicides of all varieties β€”at the very least this effort strives to bring about a decline in the frequency of these occurrences.
